The video is a little off but this was the only interview they agreed to do before their eagerly anticipated reunion performance after breaking up 30 years ago!  We had one take, so this is it in all its glory.

I have to admit, these guys still rock after all these years!  The crowd went ballistic and nearly caused a riot.  Just like the old  punk days in New York City!  Keith, Mick and Charlie look out!

I am cut out of the picture but you get some prime raw footage of these rowdy legends.

Enlightenment is Playing Uno With Your Child

On May 24, 2009, in Blog, by Anthony

A  young disciple asked his teacher:

“Teacher how do you put enlightenment into action?  How do you practice it in everyday life?”

“By eating  and sleeping,” replied the master.

“But master, everybody eats and everybody sleeps.”

“But not everybody eats when they eat and not everybody sleeps when they sleep.”

What does this mean…

It means to be fully present in the midst of all your actions.  It means not letting your ego or your conditioned mind take you away from what you are doing.

For me, it was recently playing Uno with my son.

I had a tornado in my head.  I was not there.

Then suddenly something took over and said, “Just play Uno with your son!”

And I did.

That is enlightenment!

Until next time…

What is with all of this New Age positive thinking stuff?  I thought that science, psychology and time tested and traditional practices such as Zen had the final word on this.  It does not work in and of itself!

I’m not saying that having a positive attitude is not useful or healthy, I am saying that sometimes you have to put something behind that attitude.  You can’t, as Dr. Kevin Hogan once said, think of God as a slot machine.  You can’t just wish upon a star and let it go from there.

Seems like the world was hip to this, that the cure for New Ager’s Disease was in sight.

Then the movie “The Secret” came out and a whole new, more powerful strain of New Ager’s disease struck and struck big.

The world is now going to hell in a hand basket full of crystals, singing bowls and wishful thinking!  The Devil is stoked.  He’s saying, “Ha ha ha these mother@#$kers (he’s the devil and he swears a lot) are making it really easy for me!”

You have to acknowledge both sides of the coin in life.  If there is heads, there is tales.  If there is light there is darkness. The relative world is dualistic and the sooner people understand this, really understand this they we will be much better off.

There is room for everything and if you decide anger, doubt or anything else you perceive as negative or bad are not acceptible you are going to repress these things and before you know it they will begin to creep back in but in more covert and confusing ways.

If you thought those undesirable emotions, thoughts and feelings were an inconvenience before, wait until you force them to go underground!

So now you’ve disowned anger.  Now what?  Well, you will see it everywhere.  It will come out of the woodwork and you will feel rightously indignant.  You will say with disgust (which is your covert anger), “Everybody is so damned angry. What’s with these people? They’re so messed up!”

You can’t disown your thoughts, your feelings or your emotions!  You can’t disown yourself!

Doing so will lead to much suffering, drama and mischief in your life.

People, it is okay to get angry and want to fuck something up.  It is okay to not like your noisy neighbor’s blaring music.  It is okay to be human.

Standing in front of the mirror and saying, “Every day and in every way I’m getting better and better,” is not going to stop you from being a creep, boost your sales at work or make your happiness level rise.

I’m sorry, I know that I am supposed to be a laid back, compassionate guy but to not say something and let everyone believe this bullshit is what the late Buddhist teacher/scholar Chogyam Trungpa called, IDIOT COMPASSION!”

That is what do-gooders do.  Let’s save the world because it is the right thing to do!

When you are truly compassionate, your good works are an extension of  what and who you are and happen with little thought or effort. There is no feeling bad for the poor or sick, there is just doing what needs to be done to help.  There is understanding and there is action.

Anyway, I am digressing and want to save “idiot compassion” for another post.

People, I love you.  And my compassion and the anger that I am skilfully choosing to allow in this moment says:

“You are beautiful and capable of doing great things or better yet, small things with great love in this life.  Now stop with the fluffy, easy way out bullshit.  It is not the easy way out.  It is a trap!  Get the fuck (yes, I said fuck) out from in front of that mirror and take some action to take action.  Inform yourself, empower yourself, believe in your abilities, get some help if you need it and make yourself “better and better in every way!”

Let’s band together and fight this horrible disease called New Ager’s Disease!

I have a cure…it is a compassionate cure… it is a simple four word cure:

WAKE the f$#K UP!

End of transmission.

Until next time…

Kind Regards,

A

Podcast Interview with JJ Jalopy

On May 20, 2009, in Blog, by Anthony

Had a wonderful time being interview by JJ Jalopy from jjjalopy.com

The sound is a little rough here and there but considering it was our first go and that JJ is in London, England and I am in Pennsylvania, it turned out pretty damned good!

Check it out!

For the IMC project, I recorded an awesome, entertaining and inspiring video about a tribal-type village constructed by some amazing children. The video was a complete success, but at the last minute I was asked by one of the parents and children to please pull the video.

They were both concerned that putting the video on YouTube, although entertaining and inspirational, might draw too much attention, mainly the attention of some malicious souls who might want to vandalize or diminish it in some way.

I understand and respected their wishes but later on it started bugging me.  This is my response and first video test run.

Please let me know what you think, as this is my first time doing video or audio.  I noticed a lot of  ”umming” but…um…but…um..it’s my first go.  I want your feedback and constructive criticism is always welcome.

In With the Good and Out With the Bad

On May 16, 2009, in Blog, by Anthony

Today’s post has to be short and sweet.  Promised some quality time with my son.

Although it is much more involved and complex, we really only need to do two simple things to achieve optimal health. (Note that I did not say complicated.  There is a world of difference between complex and complicated.)

The first thing to do is remove all of the bad things that are causing problems or are holding you back from optimal functioning.  These can include: stress; a nutrient deficient, processed diet; allergens; toxins;  and infections.

For this we have to remove everything.  We just can’t take out a thing or two.

The next thing to do is to put in the good things.  These include: high quality, whole foods; good clean water; exercise/good movement; love; good relationships/connection; a sense of purpose; relaxation; and meditation.  If we add these things the body will take over and do the rest.

That is it.  It seems like common sense and is so simple but most people have a lot of trouble with it.

It bears repeating over and over that there are many things that are good for all of us, but we must remember that each person has a unique genetic makeup and response to life and the environment.

What harms me drastically may not harm you at all.  I have celiacs disease.  If I ate wheat or anything with gluten in it, it would wreak havoc on my body and feed back into my brain.  Chances are it would do nothing serious to most of you.  Obviously, if you ate a lot of bread period, you would have consequences.  But for me it would be almost instantaneous and very mentally and physically painful.  It would also last for days.  Big difference!

That can be a trap for most people because what they do does not exert any instant or obvious harm.  So when it catches up, it seems to come out of nowhere.  Then they have diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression, sexual dysfunction and so on.

Well that is all for now.  Tomorrow we will start getting into the specifics of removing the bad and taking in the good.

Make it a great Saturday everyone.  I know I am!

Until next time…

Kind Regards,

A

In this weight and appearance obsessed culture of ours we tend to view food in terms of calories or energy.

Food is so much more than that.  It contains information that talks to our genes, affecting how they work in each and every moment, turning them on and turning them off.

Food is the the most expeditious and powerful medicine we can take to change our lives.

The term used to describe this is “nutrigenomics.”

One of the best explanations I’ve heard and one that may be useful to all of you is this:

“Think of your genes as the software that runs everything in your body.  Just like your computer software, it only does what you instruct it to do with the stroke of your keyboard.

The foods you eat are the keystrokes that send messages to your genes telling them what to do–creating health or disease.

Imagine what messages you are sending with a double cheeseburger, large fries and a forty-eight-ounce cola.  Consider what messages you might send instead with deep red wild salmon, braised greens and brown rice.

the science of nutrigenomics allows us to personalize medicine–not everyone with the same problems needs the same prescription.  Your individual genetic makeup determines what you need to be optimally healthy.”

We have around thirty thousand genes, but we have more than three million variations in these genes.  These variations are what make us unique and what makes our individual needs unique as well.  What is needed for me will be slightly different than what is needed for you.

Tomorrow we will explore together how we can determine those needs using a simple model.

Until then…

Kind Regards,

A

The Body-Mind Connection

On May 15, 2009, in Blog, by Anthony

Yesterday we discussed the body-mind connection and how our body-minds interact with our environment.

We also became familiar with the term somato-psychic which is the term for how the body affects the mind.  It is the converse of the dreaded and pitifully overused term, psychosomatic.

The body exerts a powerful influence over the brain.  What we eat, hormonal balance, food allergies, toxins, immune and metabolic imbalances, have a direct and profound influence over mood, behavior, attention and attitude.

Let’s take a look at how at how our bodies have affected our minds over the years

  • Have you ever felt anxious, jittery, irritable, angry or panicky only to have something sweet and instantly feel better? Why did we feel this way?  Because our blood sugar was low, and when that happens the body goes into panic mode.
  • Do you feel foggy and mentally fatigued after eating a large meal?
  • Have you ever felt totally stressed out only to feel much better after taking a long walk, swim or a bike ride?  Why did this happen?  Because you burned off the excess stress chemicals (adrenaline, cortisol) that made you feel that way.
  • Have you ever felt angry or irritable because you were short on sleep?  Have you ever felt wonderful after a good nights sleep?

These are just some easy to identify examples of the body-mind connection.  They have happened to many of us at one time or another.  But there are other more troubling and less identifiable one which we are often clueless about.

For example, think of something like PMS,  which is short for premenstrual syndrome (or if you are a man on the receiving end, punish my spouse).  All jokes aside, the mood swings associated with PMS are due to hormonal disturbances.

As another example, take the strange cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children that was cured with an antibiotic for a streptococcal infection.  The condition is called PANDAS or Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections.

As we can see, imbalances, infections or any number of conditions in the body can have dramatic affect on the brain.

Tomorrow, we will delve further into this topic.

Until then…

Kind Regards,

A
