Steve, I believe that "Being Authentic" means different things to people with different personality types. You think it means to be yourself. But that it is completely different to other people. See my youtube video about it at: http://youtu.be/8x2BMlNUb4A

Thanks Anthony for providing the evidence that proves my theory right about self-esteem. It has been used as a crutch for too long, and it really doesn't explain why people behave the way they do.

My comments are a response to Lisa McClellan's story above. I don't think that genuinely happy people typically feel the need to make a point of how happy they are compared to other people whom they are busy judging as less than themselves in various ways. It is well documented and validated that frequently an important stage in sexual abuse or assault recovery is to emerge from the shame and own what one has been through by naming it. I honestly do not believe it is fair or wise for anyone else to presume to say when that part of the process has been fulfilled.

Anthony's work is tremendously helpful in my experience and i am grateful to have the chance to work with him. My intent is to reach out to be kind to the people around me, whatever they may be identified with, whatever degree of help they may be ready for or not ready for, whether or not their way of coping with their trauma or talking about how others do or do not cope meets my standards for how to do that "right". No one elected me or any of us to be the arbiter of that standard for their life. I think its good to stay real about that when we talk about this stuff. Shalom

Ok, you got me at the study which found a connection between a childhood trauma and a 20 year less life expectancy. This is scary stuff.
I remember reading one time about a woman having lunch with her friends and her friend was still so attached to being molested as a child. She attended groups weekly, and wrote papers about it and basically defined herself as an incest survivor. The woman herself was also an incest survivor but didn't define her life as such. She said how she was so much happier than her friend and her life was so much more positive. She got help and had moved on. It was very interesting.

Hi Anthony,

Oh my goodness yes, while a food may be one of good healthy nutrients, like a healthy romantic relationship, if you are allergic to it, then of course it is not healthy for you!

I didn't realize that it was just a myth that we only use 10% of our brains. Mine has felt full for years - I should've known it wasn't true.

Hi Anthonyy,

Your facebook posts about trauma and how people are attached to it and have vested interest in retaining that pattern make for a very help and understandable synthesis for your readers. The habit in the brain to perceive certain flags as trauma reminders ads to dis-ease creation as well as impedes people relationships, both in business and personal romantic relations.

Happy Dating and Relationships,
